The Glen’s Extended Day, or Kindergarten, students are grouped with the primary students in the morning, but use more advanced works such as multiplication, grammar and more advanced science and geography. After the three-hour morning work cycle is completed, the afternoon pull out session begins. During this time, Extended Day students from all 4 classrooms come together in one classroom for lunch and to work together on highly enriching activities and lessons prescribed by the Glen’s Extended Day curriculum. Our curriculum follows Montessori standards and exceeds Pennsylvania’s standards for Kindergarten.
The Extended Day class goes on many field trips during the school year. These journeys reflect the curriculum and enrich the education of every child. Previous field trips have included The Pittsburgh Children’s Festival, The Pittsburgh Symphony, The Pittsburgh Ballet, a maple syrup festival, and a fire house to learn about fire safety. In addition, the class hosts visitors to the school such as The Pittsburgh Zoo and The Carnegie Science Center.
Every year, the Extended Day class creates a Thanksgiving feast. This task is completed from start to finish by the children. They create a menu, gather recipes, and finally cook and serve the feast.
Extended Day Graduation from The Glen is truly something special. The graduates are honored at a graduation ceremony and brunch. During the ceremony, each child is given a keeping stone to take a part of their Extended Day experience with them.
Busing is available from local school districts within ten miles of the school.
